Success for Amy in Mini-Nationals

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

On Saturday 31st May Amy Blagbrough competed in the Mini-Nationals in Doncaster. This is the event, played over a weekend for the younger age groups between 11 and 14. Amy played less than well in the singles but shone in the doubles with team-mate Isabelle Joubeily, to take the silver medals. In the final they lost to top England pair, Denise Payet and Kate Cheer.

League Cup Finals

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

Excellent results for Bournemouth players over the weekend of 7th and 8th June in Wellingborough. The Bournemouth League was the only Association in the country to have teams in all 4 finals and came away with medals in 3 of these events. Pride of place must go to Chloe Thomas and Linda Hales who dominated the Rosebowl on the Saturday, to take gold in the women's tournament. In the group stage they beat Bracknell/Wokingham and Cambridge both 4 -- 1 and Leamington Spa 3 -- 2 to set up a final against last year's holders Leeds.

Blackpool Junior 4 Star

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

Good results for Bournemouth players in the Junior 4 Star in Blackpool on Saturday 17th May. Zac Dowling demonstrated that he is almost back to top form after his layoff from table tennis. He reached the final of the Cadet Band 1 losing to Josh Harland, the No 1 Seed, who is ranked well above him, but beat the 2 Seed Artur Caltabiano in the semis. In the Open Zac lost in the Quarters to 2 Seed and England player, Alec Ramsden, but was in no way outplayed or overawed and should be pleased with his continuing progress.

Bournemouth Sports Just Miss Out On Promotion.

At the British League Play Offs on the weekend of May 10th and 11th our Bournemouth Sports team of Nathan, Steve, Chloe and Niklas Meijer came 3rd out of 6 teams gaining the same amount of points and games for and against as they did last year when they came 4th in the play offs, missing out on the two promotion places by 2 points. We did as well as we did even with a lot going against us. Before the start of the play offs according to the British League (BL) rules only Nathan, Steve and Chloe were eligible to play as each player needed to have played 5 matches over the season to be eligible.

Girls hit Commonwealth Trail

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

Two girls from Bournemouth Sports TTC will represent their respective countries in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this July. Chloe Thomas, who now lives and trains locally, will represent Wales and Hannah Hicks England. We wish the two players all the best for the Games and feel that their selection is well deserved. Hannah of course has a previous Silver Medal in the Commonwealths and also a 4th place in the team event, when England just lost out to Malaysia. Perhaps this is Chloe's turn for a medal!
