Memorable Weekend for Chloe in Sweden

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

There are not many table tennis players who arrive at a foreign airport on their way home to find their picture on the front page of the newspapers in the foyer. But this happened to Chloe Thomas after saving her Elite Swedish team from relegation last weekend. Chloe was 'headhunted' by one of the smaller Elite Clubs after Xmas, when their professional player Carolyn Cordero from Puerto Rico wasn't able to renew her visa.

Bournemouth Girls do well at Nationals

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

Hannah Hicks, Sanja Clements and Chloe Thomas all produced the goods at their respective National Championships. Hannah reached the semis of the Women's Open (only losing to winner Jo Drinkall) and the semis of the Doubles with Sanja. She must surely have done enough by reaching the top 4 (and quite comfortably) to merit selection for the Commonwealths in Glasgow later in the summer. Sanja demonstrated she is still in the top flight by reaching the final of the Veterans Singles and winning the Veteran Doubles with Emma Rose.

Junior British League - Final Weekend

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

Success for the Bournemouth Sports Junior Boys who won Division 1 and have now gained promotion into the Premier for next season. The team consisting of Jamie Trevillion, Hugo Pang, Finn Morgan-Bayliss and Zac Dowling even though winning the Division found things a lot tougher in the final weekend of matches of February 8th-9th. After the first weekend the boys were 3 points ahead of 2nd placed Ireland, after winning all their matches, so they just needed to make sure they did enough in the final weekend of matches to secure 1st place.

Senior British League Update

Sorry for failing to keep you up to date with Bournemouth Sports progress in the Senior British League Division 1 South. Since our last report the team has completed a weekend and one day of matches.

In the lead up to the Commonwealth Selections both Hannah Hicks and Chloe Thomas have been turning in some very good results. Towards the end of January Hannah again won the West of Scotland GP beating Chloe in the semis and Karina Lefevre 3 - 0 in the final. Chloe had good wins over Nicole Hall (Wales) and Corinna Whitaker (Scotland) in the Open and won the Band 1 beating Gillian Edwards (Scotland) in the final.

A successful weekend for Hugo Pang in the English Masters (top 12 boys and girls in the country) on the 4th and 5th of January. Hugo, Alec Ward and Alex Ramsden were all unbeaten on the first day with top seeds Tom Jarvis and Luke Savill both trailing. On the second day Hugo lost to both Luke and Tom but went on to win all his other games, which put him in the Silver medal position. Three boys, Tom, Hugo and Alex all ended up with 9 wins, but Tom beat Hugo to take Gold and Hugo beat Alex. Tom had 30 - 9, Hugo 28 - 12 and Alex 30 - 19.
