Amy Excels at Nationals

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

Amy Blagbrough went into the National Championships in Preston on Sunday the 24th November ranked at number 9 in England in the Under 15's. Realistically this gave her the possibility of reaching the Quarter-finals. She in fact reached the semis in both the U15 Singles and Doubles, which for a 13 year old competing in the 15's is 'punching well above her weight' to say the least. She dominated in her group winning all her matches comfortably, but after the group every match was tough.

Hannah Hicks and Tressa Armitage representing England in the Senior Home Nations in Cardiff over the weekend of 15th to 17th November came away with gold in the team event. The England team beat both Guernsey and Scotland 3 - 0, Ireland 3 - 1 and Wales 3 - 2. The Welsh team with Chloe Thomas, who also trains and plays in Bournemouth, finished 2nd to take silver. Hannah took a further gold in winning the individual singles and Chloe finished with a bronze in the singles.

Gloucester 2 Star

Good results from the young Bournemouth Sports team at the Gloucester 2 Star on Sunday 10th November. Jordan Pang, who has been playing well in the Bournemouth League, reached the final of the under 11's, losing to the No 1 Seed, Jamie Liu. Jordan performed well over the day and was not overawed by the more experienced opposition. Finn Morgan-Bayliss did equally well to reach the final of the under 18's, beating one of the visiting Danish players, Peter Trans, 3 - 1 in the semis.

JBL Success

Good results at the Junior British League weekend on the 12th -- 13th October for Bournemouth Sports Teams. The boys especially, playing in Division 1 and pushing for promotion to the Premier were in totally dominant form. The team of Hugo Pang, Jamie Trevillion and Finn Morgan-Bayliss won all their matches and stand 3 points clear of their nearest rivals Irish Boys, going into the 2nd weekend. Hugo and Jaimie topped the averages for Division 1, with Hugo on 100% and Jaimie 90%.

Senior Home Nations 15th -- 17th November

Interesting that 3 girls from Bournemouth Sports will represent their respective countries in the Senior Home Nations in Cardiff during November. Chloe Thomas will play for Wales and Hannah Hicks and Tressa Armitage for England. To say the least a strange decision from England selectors regarding Tressa, who has been training in Austria for some time now, especially in view of the fact that they effectively dropped her during her last season in the Juniors and will have little idea of how she is playing at the moment.

The first round of matches in the Senior British League Division 1 South, on the 14th and 15th September, was played at Cippenham. A Bournemouth Sports team comprising of Hannah Hicks, Nathan Bingham, Chloe Thomas, James Whitehorn (Saturday) and Tony Clayton (Sunday) faced a whole new challenge with the departure of George Downing from their ranks and absentees due to the UK School Games, but nevertheless acquitted themselves well across the weekend.

Super Thursdays

As many of you will be aware we shall be running a ‘higher level’ invitation event at Bournemouth Sports for some of our premier players on Thursday evenings during the coming season. This will not necessarily be in the form of a league every week, as some weeks we shall run individual events. It is intended to commence on Thursday the 5th September and run through till April/May 2014. The opening event on the 5th September will be in a singles format, starting at 18.30, with players feeding in as they arrive and competing against a number of other players on the night.

English Leagues Cup Competitions Finals

Excellent performances by Amy Blagbrough and Becky Kuzu in the finals of the Bromfield Trophy, the competition for the best junior girls' league team in the country. Wembley and Harrow were seeded 1 and Kettering 2 with Bournemouth and Warrington unseeded and the tournament was played on a 'round robin' basis. The first match against the 2 seeds, Kettering, was never going to be easy with Nicole Bird ranked at 19 (the highest ranked girl in the event) in the Juniors against Amy's 63 and Becky's 73.
