Success for Bournemouth TTC in Schools

Good results in the Schools Individuals for Bournemouth players. Hugo Pang, now at number 4 in Cadets, was never seriously troubled in the U13 Boys till the semis, when he went 1 -- 2 down against Josh Bennett, only to come back strongly to win in 5. However in the final it was one way traffic with England No 1, Tom Jarvis, winning 3 -- 0. In the U13 Girls Amy Blagbrough also cruised to the semis where she met Kate Cheer, England No 2 in under 13's. This was a cracking match, which went right to the wire in the 5th set.

Commonwealths: Chloe and Hannah Selected

Both Chloe and Hannah are selected (by their respective Associations) for the Commonwealth Championships in Delhi early in May. Chloe is currently playing in the Baltic Cup in Estonia, where she finished in 5th place in the team event with team mate Charlotte Carey and reached the last 32 in the singles. Chloe has rather more interesting preparation for the Commonwealths in that she will spend seven days acclimatising and training in Dubai before flying on to India while Hannah will make do with a training camp in England! Good luck to both girls.

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

The Natwest Jersey Open, now in its 7th year, attracted its biggest entry ever over this Easter, with high level players from the UK, Turkey and Slovakia. Bournemouth had 2 Women's Teams in the Open Event and Sanja Clements competed too in the mixed Veteran's Team with Jane Vickers. The 2 Women's Teams ended up playing each other in the final with Hannah Hicks and Chloe Thomas beating Tressa Armitage and Sanja Clements 3 -- 0. But the upset of the tournament was in the semi when Tressa and Sanja destroyed the No 1 Seeds, Alice Loveridge and Emma Vickers 3 --1.

Six Nations Singles

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

George Downing was the victor in the Junior Boys’ singles following a successful Scottish double over Blair Fowler and Scott Barton in the knockout stages.

Having progressed from his group comfortably with a series of 3-0 wins, Downing was seeded to face Fowler – who had to beat Conor Edwards (WAL) in five games in the quarter-final. The Englishman’s power eventually proved too much for the Scot in a 3-0 (11-7, 12-10, 11-3) win.

In the final he met Barton, who had defeated Sam Mabey (ENG) 3-1 in his semi-final. It was the Scot who started the quickest (and loudest) in winning the opening game 12-10 but after that it was Downing who resumed control, winning the next three games over the battling Barton.

George Downing (ENG) bt Scott Barton (SCO) 3-1 (10-12, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9)
