Super Thursdays

As many of you will be aware we shall be running a ‘higher level’ invitation event at Bournemouth Sports for some of our premier players on Thursday evenings during the coming season. This will not necessarily be in the form of a league every week, as some weeks we shall run individual events. It is intended to commence on Thursday the 5th September and run through till April/May 2014. The opening event on the 5th September will be in a singles format, starting at 18.30, with players feeding in as they arrive and competing against a number of other players on the night.

English Leagues Cup Competitions Finals

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

Excellent performances by Amy Blagbrough and Becky Kuzu in the finals of the Bromfield Trophy, the competition for the best junior girls' league team in the country. Wembley and Harrow were seeded 1 and Kettering 2 with Bournemouth and Warrington unseeded and the tournament was played on a 'round robin' basis. The first match against the 2 seeds, Kettering, was never going to be easy with Nicole Bird ranked at 19 (the highest ranked girl in the event) in the Juniors against Amy's 63 and Becky's 73.

National League

Played at Cippenham on the weekend 20/21st April, Bournemouth Sports finished in fourth position in the play-offs for the right to be in the Premier Division next season. Although well beaten 8-0 by the all-conquering Greenhouse Progress team they came very close to snatching the second qualifying spot. After 6-2 wins against both Derwent and Godalmling Coversure, they drew 4-4 with Speedwell Chesterfield and lost 3-5 to Urban Progress, the second place finishers.
The team consisting of George Downing, Hannah Hicks, Nathan Bingham and Stephen Foster all managed to win several matches against higher ranked opponents and the three male players should see a big leap in the next National Ranking List. George and Stephen won 6/10, Nathan 4/10 and Hannah 3/10.

BSTTC Local Triumphs

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

At local level Bournemouth players are dominant. In the Bournemouth One Star Hugo Pang beat Nathan Bingham in the semis of the Seniors and Stephen Foster in the final. In the cadet events Zac Dowling picked up a first and Chloe Cass a second place. On the finals night of the Premier Division of the Bournemouth and District League it will again be Hugo Pang and Steven Foster! In the Southampton League finals Steven won the Open, the Premier and the doubles with Ed Slot.

Success for Bournemouth TTC in Schools

Good results in the Schools Individuals for Bournemouth players. Hugo Pang, now at number 4 in Cadets, was never seriously troubled in the U13 Boys till the semis, when he went 1 -- 2 down against Josh Bennett, only to come back strongly to win in 5. However in the final it was one way traffic with England No 1, Tom Jarvis, winning 3 -- 0. In the U13 Girls Amy Blagbrough also cruised to the semis where she met Kate Cheer, England No 2 in under 13's. This was a cracking match, which went right to the wire in the 5th set.
