Sophie gets Gold and Bronze in Schools International

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

Our Sophie had good results in her first Schools' International. This was the Primary Schools' International played in Scotland on the 6th to 8th April. She helped England to comfortable victories in the team event over Wales, Scotland and Guernsey all 10 -- 0 and Ireland 9 -- 1, to take the gold. In the singles she cruised through to the semis (the furthest of any of the other English girls) where she lost to the Irish girl Rachel Taylor to take a Bronze medal. It should also be pointed out that Sophie is only just nine years old and has 2 more years playing in Under 11 events.

Hungarian International Mini-Cadet Open

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

Eight year old Sophie Barcsai, representing Bournemouth Sports TTC performed more than adequately in the Mini-Cadet event in Budapest starting last weekend. As you can see from the photo it was very much a question of 'little and large' with many of the girls up to four years older than her. In the team event she took one of the top Hungarian 12 year olds (who plays in the National Team) to the fifth end and beat a German girl of the same age 3 -- 1 despite being 6 -- 10 down on the fourth.
