Sophie gets Gold and Bronze in Schools International

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

Our Sophie had good results in her first Schools' International. This was the Primary Schools' International played in Scotland on the 6th to 8th April. She helped England to comfortable victories in the team event over Wales, Scotland and Guernsey all 10 -- 0 and Ireland 9 -- 1, to take the gold. In the singles she cruised through to the semis (the furthest of any of the other English girls) where she lost to the Irish girl Rachel Taylor to take a Bronze medal. It should also be pointed out that Sophie is only just nine years old and has 2 more years playing in Under 11 events.

Advanced Table Tennis Course 7th and 8th April 2018

Will members please note we shall be running an advanced course on the above two dates from 1000 till 1600 on each day. The course will be run by Hannah Hicks and Carl Prean and will focus on all aspects of pimpled rubber play. As you will be aware Hannah has played for England Internationally at almost all levels and Carl was well recognised as the World's best long pimple attacker; he had plus quotes against many of the best players in the world including multiple World Champion J O Waldner.

TV at Bournemouth Sports

Will members please note that there will be no normal practice in the club between 1300 and 1500 on Wednesday 17th January as Meridian TV will be interviewing Matt Ware re his recent success in the Qualification for the World Ping Pong Championships, which will take place at Alexandra Palace on the 27th and 28th January.

Hungarian International Mini-Cadet Open

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

Eight year old Sophie Barcsai, representing Bournemouth Sports TTC performed more than adequately in the Mini-Cadet event in Budapest starting last weekend. As you can see from the photo it was very much a question of 'little and large' with many of the girls up to four years older than her. In the team event she took one of the top Hungarian 12 year olds (who plays in the National Team) to the fifth end and beat a German girl of the same age 3 -- 1 despite being 6 -- 10 down on the fourth.

Sophie Success

Until the weekend of 2nd/3rd December 2017 Joy Whitehorn was the youngest player ever to represent Dorset County at table tennis: she was 9 years old when she did this. Sophie Barcsai has already played for Dorset at County Cadet and Junior levels at the age of 7! Over the above weekend Sophie broke all records when she represented Dorset County making her debut at Senior County level. During the weekend she beat the woman ranked 33 on the Table Tennis England's senior ranking list, the vastly experienced Sarah Horsnell.
