World University Games Italy

For the second time in a row Chloe Thomas is representing British Universities in the World University Games in Naples. The World Uni Games is the second biggest sporting event in the world
after the Olympics. Chloe playing alongside Tin Tin Ho and Emily Bolton has taken Team GB to the Quarter Finals of the Team Event where they will meet France.

The team finished 2nd in their group beating Germany 3 - 1 and Sri Lanka 3 - 0 but losing 0 - 3 to Taipei. In the qualifying rounds they beat Hongkong 3 - 1 to reach the Quarters. Chloe and Tin Tin have each had only one defeat (in the Taipei match).

The going now gets tough as there are still 4 Asian teams left in the competition, China, Korea, Japan and Taipei plus Romania and Russia. One final boost for Chloe is she learned while in Naples that she had achieved a high 2.1 in her final degree at Bournemouth University.

Only a few weeks to go before the beginning of the preparation for the teams / players. Please make contact if your circumstances have changed for the new season.

Don't forget to renew your Table Tennis England players licence.

Sophie Barcsai does well again
4th March2019

Sophie Barcsai won two titles at the Welsh National Championships in Cardiff on the 2nd-3rd March. She is National Champion at U11 and U13 (dropping only one end in both of these events). Also she was in the Semis of the Cadets (under 15's) which was won by Anna Hursey. In the Irish Nationals which took place at the same time, 12 year old Emily Flynn, who has trained at Bournemouth in preparation for this event, dominated, beating all other 8 contenders to become Irish National U13 Champion. Our own Hannah Hicks competing in the English Nationals, despite hardly training over the last 6 months
came away with a Bronze Medal losing only to Tin Tin Ho in the Semis.

9th January2019

Last year Sophie got to the last 8 in the Hungarian Mini Cadet Open in the under 11 event. This year at the age of 9 she reached the semis in a very strong field of girls from all over Europe, many of them National Champions in their own country. She still has 2 more years in this event. She also with a scratch partner reached the final of the Team Consolation for girls' 13.
