The future of the Premier league ( Friday 27th February 2015 at 7.30pm at Winton YMCA)

Dear All,
Please see a message from the Association below :

This letter is written to you as a player in the Bournemouth table tennis league’s Premier or First Division. I have also copied this letter to all Club Secretaries in order that they might distribute it to their members who play in other lower divisions.

The 2013/2014 season saw the Premier Division reduce in team numbers from ten in the previous year, to six for that year. This was the direct result of four teams being withdrawn from league competition. The BDTTA Executive Committee decided to play the six teams four times through the season which, although it understood would prove an unpopular format, was unavoidable due to the constraints made by clubs and their playing venues.

For the current season, 2014/2015, the Executive Committee unanimously decided that all divisions would play the same format in the hope, and expectation, that an additional two teams would be playing in the Premier Division. This has not happened and we now find ourselves with just seven teams, who will only play each other twice in a twelve match format. The Executive Committee consider it most important that the Bournemouth League should have a strong and well supported Premier Division, but can foresee this cannot happen without some radical changes. Without this the future of the Premier Division, as we know it, looks bleak.

The Executive Committee agreed that it needed to consult with its members in order to gauge opinion for the future. To do this we need to hold an open meeting with as many involved players attending. Out of that meeting it is hoped that we can formulated the agreed options put forward, into an outline plan for next season, and then be able to access the viability of those options.

On behalf of the Executive Committee, I would like to invite you to attend a Special Meeting to discuss the matters referred to above. This meeting is proposed for Friday 27th February 2015 at 7.30pm at Winton YMCA. Please try and make every effort to attend as there may well be little opportunity to address this current problem in future years.
