First Lovett Junior Tournament at Bournemouth Sports

Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club

An excellent first Junior Tournament was held at Bournemouth Sports on Sunday the 29th December. This was sponsored by Lovett Estate and Letting Agents and was primarily directed at our Youth League players and those from our club participating in the lower divisions of the Bournemouth League.
The players started in 4 groups with the top players progressing to the Main event and the lower players into the Consolation. After the groups we had a break for pizza, fruit and coke which was well received. We then progressed to the Quarter-final stages of both events, closely watched by Julian Hewlett, the office manager for Lovett and himself a premier player.
In the Consolation, Lily Cherry beat Matt Stanfield to reach the final, but the other semi between Luke Goodall and Jacob Blackburn provided an epic battle with Luke winning close in the 5th end. The final between Lily and Luke was equally thrilling and again went to 5 sets with Lily actually leading by two points towards the end. Luke however was not to be denied and clawed his way back to win deuce on the 5th!
In the Main event Amy Blagbrough dominated the top half of the draw winning all her matches 3 - 0. Kai Masters shocked Jordan Pang to win close on the 5th but could not compete with Amy. In the bottom half Ben Graham, who had played better and better as the day went on, beat Tom Cherry 3 - 1 to reach the semi. Again Amy however was comfortably in control in the final. So Amy Blagbrough is the first winner of the Lovett Shield, which we hope now to run as an annual event.
Matt Stanfield won the prize for the Player of the Tournament. Our thanks to Ken Parradine who filmed the event and we hope to provide DVDs in the near future. Lovett too will provide photographs of the finalists which we will also distribute.
